Airport Win: No More Barefoot Security

Okay, travel fam, this is not a drill. If you have ever stood in the TSA line juggling your carry-on, laptop, water bottle, and yes, your shoes, we have some seriously good news for you.

The TSA has officially ended the rule requiring passengers to remove their shoes at airport security. That is right. Starting now, most travelers will no longer have to do the awkward shoe shuffle. Can we take a moment to celebrate?

So, what changed?

As of July 8, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration announced that travelers across all U.S. airports can now keep their shoes on during security screenings. No TSA PreCheck required. This new policy applies to everyone, thanks to the rollout of updated security technology.

Let’s break it down.

  • New and improved scanners: TSA upgraded its security systems with new tech that can detect threats without you having to remove your shoes. These scanners were tested earlier this year in places like Fort Lauderdale, Portland, and Philadelphia, and the feedback was a win.

  • Real ID is now in full swing: With travelers using Real IDs or passports for domestic travel, the security process is already more streamlined and secure.

  • Passengers spoke up: Nobody enjoyed standing barefoot on cold airport floors. TSA finally listened, and the result is a less stressful experience for all of us.

What do you still need to do?

Now, before you skip through the TSA line like you're on a red carpet, keep in mind there are still some rules in place.

You will still need to:

  • Show your ID and boarding pass

  • Remove your laptop and liquids for screening

  • Possibly take off jackets, belts, or other accessories if they trigger the scanner

And, if for any reason security agents need a closer look, they can still ask you to remove your shoes. But overall, most travelers will breeze through without any issues.

Is TSA PreCheck still worth it?

Absolutely. While this update benefits everyone, TSA PreCheck members still get the VIP treatment. You can keep your laptop and liquids in your bag, skip some of the longer lines, and keep your belt and light jacket on. If you travel more than once a year, it is a smart move that saves you time and energy.

So what does this mean for your next trip?

This is one of those little things that makes a big difference. No more planning your travel day outfit around easy-to-remove shoes. No more hopping around trying to get your sneakers back on while balancing your bag. You can walk into the airport knowing the experience just got a little more comfortable.

This change is a major win for travelers everywhere. It makes the airport experience quicker, more comfortable, and just a little less stressful. At Elite Lifestyle Travel, we are always here to help you stay updated and ready for takeoff.
